Isle of Skye Round Table No 1133 was founded on 12 December 1972 when a group of upstanding (falling down) young men met in Portree under the direction of their expectant mother, Stornoway and District No. 1065 and some Tablers from Huntly. The meeting was chaired by the lesser seen Sound of Raasay Shark, Donald MacRae and was attended by a variety of well known Skye 'worthies' including the famous St. Columba, and Bonnie Prince Charlie who had vacated a nearby cave to make way for Lord Lucan. Regular meetings of the prospective Tablers followed thereafter and the inaugural dinner was held in 1973 . |

The first of many fundraising projects began shortly afterwards with a substantial donation being made to the Skye Swimming Pool Fund and the start of a series of events to finance a minibus for use by the elderly people of Skye. The Charter Dinner was held in the Cuillin Hills Hotel on 1st November 1974, formally establishing the Isle of Skye Round Table No. 1133. It's reputation also spread that year, not just locally through it's tremendous fundraising but elsewhere in RTBI by visitation. "Misappropriation" in the form of aquiring various items from other Tables also began with various items ranging from a chairman's jewel to bottles of liquor finding their way back to Skye. This resulted in many memorable expeditions to and from other Tables so that the items could be returned. In the following years, Skye Tablers have taken part in many innovative events, raising huge sums for local and national causes. Events include highly popular "Fix-Its"(one including Jimmy Saville himself!), Skye-Week (a week log series of successful funraising events which was an annual event for 10 years), Skye-Live (a scaled down version of Skye Week), Gala Days, Jail Breaks, Auctions, Isle of Skye Half Marathon and a variety of dances and concerts. Since its foundation, many national causes have benefited from the work of IOSRT and these include The RNLI , Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust, ARMS, and Children in Need. Locally, the community has benefited greatly from the hard work and generosity of Tablers with a variety of projects too numerous to mention benefiting financially. Major beneficiaries have been the Isle of Skye Swimming Pool, Portree Squash Club, Arms, Portree High School, Local Community Halls and Hospitals, and Skye Old Peoples Welfare Committee which has received 3 minibuses for use by the elderly generation of the island. Many individuals with special needs have also benefited from assistance. In Table, IOSRT has also been to the fore with frequent visits to other tables both in this country and abroad. Some of these visits became legendary in RT circles with Soest (Germany) being drunk dry, daffodils being chewed in Fort William and a valuable keg of beer being stolen from Nairn, to mention just a few! |

| We have also provided Area 13 with many office bearers including four Area Chairmen - Bill Simpson (1982), Drew Millar (1988), Nick Lawton (1995) and Ruairidh MacKinnon (2003). Nick, an inspiration to every Tabler, served as National President this year, a considerable achievement in many ways. | ![]() |
